Overview
In beautiful La Jolla Kelp marine reserve, this rocky reef is teeming with life! Large rock outcroppings sit right on the edge between the rocky reef of La Jolla and the sand falling away offshore at depths of 45 to 50 feet. There are lots of interesting rock fingers, small caverns, holes, etc. This is also generally the edge of the kelp forest, and one of the healthiest kelp forests left in Southern California. It is often clearer than our other shallow kelp dives.
What to See
Rock fingers, small caverns and holes. Rays and small reef sharks out over the sand patches, plus the fish and invertebrate life that comes with a healthy kelp forest.
Typical Conditions
Open Water+. Often better visibility than other shallow kelp sites.
